Predicting the future 2012 and beyond – what is to come?

Hello all,

Since it is a trend to predict the future, I thought of taking out my Tarot cards and do some predictions based on what I feel, know and knew. I’ll keep the predictions to several levels, which probably are totally different from one another, and they are things that I find important. Feel free to skip to any point that you only find important, or interesting

  • People
  • Technology
  • Me

People

In the last few years I’ve been part of something wonderful, a group of people who talk about what is really happening in our spiritual world, and much more important on how this is influencing our daily lives. I’m not going to talk about every detail and on every path we have walked on to come to certain conclusions, that would be to much for one post.

The people of our world are waking up from the sleeping lives of unknown slavery, WHAT??? do you think “Slavery…, I’m a free person, I do what I want when I want and how I want”. You keep thinking that, you will miss the express train my friend. In several countries the “everyday Jo” is standing up for his or her freedom and opinion, how many dictators have been eliminated or pushed aside the last year? I’m beginning to lose count.

We are all “suggested free people”, we think we are free, but we are not. That is about to change, radically, but don’t you worry everything is going to be alright. As long as you believe in your THRU SELF, you will go thru a wonderful adventure. Our world is currently based on one thing, MONEY, nothing more, nothing less.

This is the basis of our survival, we have become so depended upon it that we cannot live without it… but can we? Be honest to yourself, and just sit down and think about it. Take the time to sit and take any influence in your mind (government, advertising, media, internet, etc. ) make a little cloud of them and let them drift away, without any feeling. After a while you will see the blue sky, that is when you can start thinking clearly about it.

MONEY, runs the world as we know it. Or better said, money runs our lazy way of living. Imaging going to you neighbor and asking him/her one question: What can I do for you? I ask nothing in return.

Swabing, the door closes… day 1; day 2 you try again… again the door closes; day 3 you try again… “Well, there is this thing I have been wanting to…”

2 weeks later, your neighbor is at your door, asking you the same thing… You help each other. And in the end, you will receive food, clothing, a ride in a car, etc. (do stop there, you can think of much more)

THAT is what is going to happen, the economic system will crash, we will need to help each other. If everyone believes and acts this way we will create a new world, which is not run by a speculative, material thing.

Ya, that was heavy, and a mind opener. Most important thing to take away is. Believe in your true self, and only listen to your true self.

Technology

I tell you one word: “Cloud computing”. And this is simple a statement as can be (I don’t need Steve Jobs for that – sorry Apple lovers)!

Applications, is the second word. Combine the two, and you get the future.

The trend or beter, the reality of ICT for Business is becoming a basic fact in the world. The business people do not care about what they are holding in their hands (iPad, Android, Windows X, blablabla,…) They care about only one thing;

  • Applications
    • Line of business
    • Communications (social media, e-mail – this is almost dead in 2013, mobile, conferencing)
    • Accounting

That is what lives, all what is below it; it’s only for the big guys who run their Cloud data centers in the world.

I personally and professionally am moving to the cloud, I don’t want to see anything else then a web-brouwser… Or better an application. Big step, because I’m an ex-tech-guy. And I’ll be a business person, not an IT’er anymore but a Solution Advisor. Providing my customer… oeps already talking about ;

Me

I’m focussing on the things I write above, I’m going full cloud and I have a company that I see as a good potential basis provider and they have been around for quite a few years.

Check my Linkedin account (www.nicovandevenne.info) in a month time. lets say it’s going to run 365 days and also very in-tune…

For some of you this is a strange post, for others it will be an eye opener. I post my mind, so I leave this and provide it As-Is. Happy New-year.

The end of the word “digital” the revival of the word “analoge”.

It’s been a while sins I blogged and in the time some clear things have changed. We got a new government, whether that is good news… I’ll leave that in the middle, we have more cloud awareness, etc.

But what has caught my attention is a new trend, ok new really new, but a trend that is taking shape and is here to stay. It’s actually becoming a commodity.

People have stopped using the word digital… really; people who used to put the word digital in front of everything have stopped. Another word that has left the day to day conversation is “smart” in regards to the phone, it’s simply … Phone.

Ok, I’m a realist, some people will always use the word described above, but a new generation is clearly coming up and showing the world the new open-mindedness en togetherness of the next generation.

Recently during a presentation I asked people to introduce themselves, 75% of the audience was between 22 and 27 (I think). And during their individual presentation they openly admitted their strong points AND their weaknesses. That was great, I knew who I was talking to, and most importantly, I know where to focus on… A dream for a presenter / trainer.

This shows that the world is changing once again and that some words are no use, they could be removed from the dictionary. But should they really?

No, a language lives, and words remain because they are a part of history. What could be said or done is, the move to the background for them to come back at a later date or time. Look at the word “Analog”, this is now a word used for unique and special things (analog camera; analog TV; etc.) it has actually become a special word.

You know what I have been wondering about? “What’s next?”

  • We had the analog era
  • We have the digital era
  • We will go to the … era; And the word “digital” will become the word “analog” Special for its own era.

Will we al change or evolve in to “super” beings’? Using telepathy to send info; make orders; explain idea’s; etc. What will that be called? “Minding”…

The future is still going to bring wonderful things like;

  • Unity
  • Openness

I recently decided to take a new course in my work life. It seems that within this new course even my company car is turning “digital”. I am a home worker and some of my customer meetings will be done over “the net”. Be it phone; chat; presentation with software. Freaky, if you know I’m an old-timer car fanatic and love driving.

So we all might end up not needing a car when you work from home;

  • Groceries are delivered
  • Conferences are digital (see the recent on-line Partner road show from #Microsoft)
  • Meetings are digital (still using the word “digital”) ;-)

Or in the extreme;

  • We are all connected with our minds when we want and with whom we want.

Physical labor will always be around, but robots are no longer Si-fi. I have seen them in several locations already;

  • A lawn mower robot
  • Vacuum robot
  • Dishwasher

Knowing humanity, we would have more and more of these devices coming in day by day or year by year.

But coming back to the present, enjoy these simple days and our commodities of today, and let the commodities and specials of tomorrow come. We will embrace them one by one as we always have. With resistance at the start and open arms later.

  • Digital: you’re up for a hibernation
  • Analog: you can come out on special occasions
  • Minding: wait a bit; we are coming slowly but steady

interAct partner day 2011 – my experience

On the 29 of october I was at the partner day from interAct at Utopolis Mechelen, a great day, a great experience; here somethings I brougt with me. No comments implied and this is solly my opinion on the different subjects.

Start of the day – keynote

Roel Gydé and Jan Stroombergen, started the day with there own little deviced keynote as a role-playing of SMB-CEO and Reseller/ trusted advisor. Basing themselfs on the product portfolio that Ingrammicro/inteact distribute they mad the story complete from end-point to datacenter to even the cloud. The major subjects Virtualisation (server, end-point, user); Security; Authentication; and much more where addressed in a step by step (6 in total) basis. Once again I was inspired and filled with new idea’s for us “Systemat Belgium” to start to look in to. sorry I’m not yet going to tell my mindspinse but there is some “lego” involved, those of you who where there know what I mean.

Several sessions on products – I followed these sessions;

  1. Citrix Xendesktop 7/10
  2. Datacore SANSYMPHONY-V 8/10
  3. VM6 Managed Cloud Platform 8/10
  4. AppSense 6/10
  5. Redefining the role of the Channel in the cloud 9,5/10
  6. Movie Avant-premièr “The three musketiers”

I’m not going to elaborate on them but I did put points next to them as a rating, not related to the product but to the presentation. What I do want to go indept on is the second to last session, I’m not oing to go in to the movie, I don’t want to see Rudi’s friend come in with his Night-vision goggles and camera snatching techniek…I have a webcame on my LT.. O-OOH ;-) .

Redefining the role of the Channel in the cloud  (round table…ok half round)

interAct realy got some big heads… minds around the table especialy when it comes to cloud;

  • Microsoft
    Martin Walker
    Director Microsoft Online Services – EMEA
  • HP
    Christian Verstraete
    Chief Technologist – Cloud Strategy
  • Cisco
    Ed Baker
    Director – Data Center & Private Cloud Sales – Emerging Markets
  • Citrix
    Niklas Lindberg
    Director, Systems Integrator, Networking & Cloud Sales - EMEA
  • Fujitsu Technology Solutions
    Michel Dalle
    Head Cloud Architect
  • interAct, Ingram Micro Value Division
    Rudi Lenaerts
    CEO interAct
    Director Value Division Ingram Micro BeLux
    Chairman at Belgium Cloud
The setup was quit cool, each had a presentation time (20 minutes) and in between some questions would be posted for them to comment on and us as an audiance we where allowed to question (read: cross examen) the opinions.
(I’ll try to rewrite the questions, but I didn’t get them all down on paper, sorry for error… I’m only human :-) )

Q1 : Is cloud a business model, or a new sales channel?

Martin Walker (MSFT): Technicaly there are no changes, it’s an evolution. Business wise it is a big change, it is a new business model
Christian Verstraete (HP): X-As-A-Service; users will not care what the app/data runs on in the future, it is a new business service model
Ed Baker (Cisco): It is a new way for the channel/reseller to be relevant to the customer
Niklas Lindberg (Citrix): It is an adoption route for SMB especialy those who have a lac of mainframe or any infrastructure, New SMB’s specificaly. A segment focus within the market is a good strategy
Michel Dalle (Fujitsu): What is cloud? Partner used to install, software or hardware and services. Now the partner can sell software and services. Most iportant is that the partner needs to become or already is a Trusted Advisor. In this case you can have a treth from the competition if they are faster and this is an opportunity for the reseller.
Rudi Lenaerts (interAct): The channel should answer the question. Choose, depending on your customer.

Keynote Citrix:

The full details of this keynote I will spare you, but clearly Citrix had a message or two:

  • We where there before the cloud was there
  • Citrix will not build there own cloud datacenter or solution

The Citrix solutions are based on BYODevice and scalled for all types of cloud (Personal, Private, Public)

Q2: In a cloud environment, who owns the customer?

Martin Walker (MSFT): It’s a question of who will the customer contact? This is the opportunity of the provider, become SPOC before and after the cloud.
Christian Verstraete (HP): Building a trusted advisor relationship will gain you advantage with the customer, but you will never own the customer. IF you get there first and create the TA relationship, you will “sevice” the customer not own. If you don’t tell you customer about the cloud, someone else will.
Ed Baker (Cisco): The customer owns the customer.
Niklas Lindberg (Citrix): PAy as you use is a very competitive market, create s solutions to counter.
Michel Dalle (Fujitsu): Ownership of the customer is related to your service to the customer. Be present at your customer, give them consultancy.
Rudi Lenaerts (interAct): A rumor around the cloud is that the vendors are trying to capture the relation… this is not true, the channel is needed, they want to use the channel => Feedback from the channel: “that’s not true for some…”

Keynote Fujitsu:

Cloud computing = IT as a utility
Trusted partnership is the key
The CIO role is realy changing from a IT management possition or controle position to a Strategic asset to the business.

Keynote Cisco: No slides used… keeps your attention, cool trick :-)

Look and talk to customers that see their competition move to the cloud and use the dynamics and advantages of this solution and in this way win market against them. Help them gain or uphold their own part of the market.

A Service provider example: A SP looked at it’s market and segmented it based on the solution they provided

Keep it simple – VDI requests are picking up

Cisco programs: cloud builder; cloud provider; cloud reseller

Keynote HP:

Cloud is an overused word, ask your customer what they mean or think they mean.

Channel? Strategy is the new market; a failure to plan is a plan to failure.

Keynote Microsoft:

MSFT is a partner with Distribution

Syndication, sell bundeled deals

Microsoft as an advisor to the channel

Keynote interAct:

Cloud is an evolution in ICT, not a revolution.

Special visitor from the US  Jason Beal.

  • To sell cloud, change you sales compensation plans (First priority)
  • Rule of 78, sell 1€ per month and en up with 78€ the first year (I didn’t realy catch this one… Possible answer…)
And then some gifts where transfered and we all went to the bar for some drinks and food as one big happy … competition :-)

A trip to me

Sometimes I want to make a trip around the world to find myself, then I realize that myself is right here within me. So I make a very quick trip around the world to end at the beginning. I realize that the trip is more important then the destination.
